A novel insulation method for electronics operating at the lunar South Pole, developed during a rotation to ES33 and funded through a department-wide Engineering Systems IT&D grant.
The lunar South Pole is a priority target for upcoming missions, but it's also one of the harshest thermal environments to operate electronics in, with extreme cold and long stretches without direct sunlight. During a rotation to ES33 as part of the Pathways program, I put together a proposal for a new insulation approach aimed at protecting electronics through those conditions, and it was selected as one of five funded projects in a department-wide Engineering Systems IT&D competition.
